Problem of the Day Part III

Answers for the last installment:

  1. A Deck of Cards is cut, passed around the table, but not eaten (unless you eat cards)

  2. The Three daughters are not triplets because they are three parts of quadruplets, quintuplets, etc. The father could also have been unfaithful or a sperm donor, though the first explanation is simpler.

  3. Your breath is impossible to hold for an hour (as far as I know) and weighs virtually nothing.

Today's questions are math related:

  1. Arrange four “9”'s to give you 100 (this isn't a trick, use the “9”'s with any mathematical symbols but the only digit you can use is “9”)

  2. Arrange four “5”'s to give you 6

  3. Arrange seven “7”'s to give you 100

There may be more than one way to do these, so every unique answer will get a point.

Good luck!

mommy says...one answer for #2.problem is: 5+(5divided by5)=6

still working on the other two...

That's only three "5"'s, but you are thinking in the right way...

for #2:

(55 / 5) - 5 = 6

(i have exams to study for, so i am going to be a little slow this time around)

thefuzzymethod said...

for #1:

((((9/9) + 9) * 99)* 9)-((9/9) - 9)

i *think* that works, but i never really understood brackets.

ignore me. i am an idiot.

ok, let me try this again:

99 + (9/9) = 100

feel free to disown me anytime

for #3:

((7 + 7) * 7) + (7/7) + (7/7)

(that took me plus two staff over thinking it for a half hour)

I think that's three that work... but I know for sure there are more...
